Ok..so I was never really into blogging about my critiques on the outfit choices for celebrities at fashion-related events like the Cannes Film Festival. I sure like reading about them though. But this time I was inspired after watching the latest episode of Fashion Police (and my first time ever).
My tastes in fashion are clearly different from everyone else's. My aesthetic can be described as glamorous, fancy, soft, dreamy, romantic, modern, edgy, sexy, etc. So clearly my choices are related. Instead of being harsh and unfiltered like Joan Rivers (*ahem*), I will keep it short and include my constructive criticism since I'm no fashion professional. Nor will I be 'arresting' anyone either. Fashion is meant to be fun and subjective to the wearer's tastes so you can't always be too harsh.

Looks I liked:
Nicole Kidman in Lanvin. She's a beauty! The dress is flattering everywhere, and on her flattering figure. Love it.
Doutzen Kroes in Versace. First, she's a model so it's a given that she'd look good. But her dress is slim, elegant, and not at all bridal-like. I don't like the lines on the bodice but it does add some interest and helps to steer it clear from wedding territory.
Kim Kardashian in Elie Saab. Elie Saab is a magical designer, y'all. This creation is no exception. We all know Kim has a curvy figure and normally looks good in clothes, so she does look great here as well. Monica Rose (her stylist) obviously is very talented - I love her work!
Nicky Hilton is fabulous in a chic leather minidress and Louboutins. She topped it off with a classic bun, minimal makeup and jewelry. She definitely aced this.
Natasha Poly in Gucci. Sexy, glamorous, and fits just right. The hair is also perfect. I will steal the hairstyle for later.
Jane Fonda in Roberto Cavalli. Initially I was on the fence about this...but thinking about it now I realize it is difficult to look and fit a sheath dress just right. She did a great job. Flattering and appropriate with the right amount of glamour.
Diane Kruger in Giambattista Valli. She is show-stopping in that gown! It's ethereal, radiant, and perfect on her. I also like her updo.
Jane Fonda again but in Atelier Versace. She looks good in the dress. Right style, right fit, and nothing excessive or revealing.
Virginie Ledoyen in Elie Saab. If you know me, you know I absolutely hate strapless dresses. It's far too common in the world of fashion but, well, what can you do? I hate it because they're usually not flattering on less bustier women (though not always) and every woman wears it for her wedding dress. Ending my rant, I have to say there are some exceptions (like this) and this is one of them. She looks so beautiful and modest in that dress. It has the right amount of detail and she kept it minimal in accessories and makeup. I love simple looks like this.
Looks I Didn't Like:
Heidi Klum in Marchesa. Heidi is a model and has a great figure, but I don't like this look. The colour of the dress is kind of washed out on her pale skin and blonde hair. The transparent spots, fringe sleeves and tee shirt-like bodice isn't working on her. The hair is also very understated.
Kirsten Dunst in Louis Vuitton. There is not one part of this look I like. Kirsten has an enviable figure but she didn't show it off here. There's too much to critique and I'm not sure where to start so.......next.
Rose McGowan in Atelier Versace. I don't like dresses with peekaboo skirts (I don't know the exact fashion term for this). For some reason the pink peekaboo skirt (lol) reminds me of Nicki Minaj. I don't know what's going on with the bodice, to be honest. It doesn't help. She should have gone with Elie Saab.
Kate Upton in Louis Vuitton. Louis, what were you thinking...? Most importantly, I wonder what Kate was thinking when she decided to okay this dress.
Diane Kruger in Chanel. I must be one of the very few people who have not been a fan of Diane's fashion choices lately (except for that Giambattista Valli dress!). I think the dress and hairstyle looks too old on her; plus her hair looks flat. The top part of the dress is good, but the skirt, no. Nice shoes, though.
Milla Jovovich in Versace. I personally think the dress is unflattering on her. I don't like the dress either. Very robotic. (Side note: it kind of reminds me of Bender from Futurama lol.)
Magdalena Frackowiak in Roberto Cavalli. I think Magdalena looks good here. The dress and bag aren't. She could have done better. The look is very...muted.
Janet Jackson in Emilio Pucci. ALMOST. This ALMOST turned out perfectly except I am not a fan of the neckline. She didn't need to show any cleavage to stun the photographers, really! It looks like someone took a pair of scissors to the dress.
Milla Jovovich in Prada. Nope, not liking it.
Kristen Stewart in Balenciaga. I know a lot of people liked this dress on her but I am not a fan of the print. The design is also a bit too mature on Kristen (I mean, she's my age!).
Kim Kardashian in Balmain. Ok, I recant my above statement about her reguarly looking good in clothes. I'm not sure if Monica Rose styled her here but if she did, I don't think she would have chose the dress and boots (???). She already has a small frame but the dress makes her look smaller. She looks like a toy soldier.
Heidi Klum in Roberto Cavalli. This was near perfection for me, except I wish the dress was cinched in at the waist because it makes her look like she's got a curveless figure. I'm not a fan of the earrings either. I would have added a sparkly silver box clutch. Or this.
Carine Roitfeld in a designer whose name I don't know and can't find. I thought this was a dress until I saw the bottom...so I'm pretty sure it's a dress, right? I would have picked another because this is reminding me of disco time.
Karolina Kurkova in Roberto Cavalli. This reminds me of Heidi's dress, I guess because their dresses are both by Cavalli... I'm on the fence about this one but if I had to decide I'd say nay because I'm not a fan of sequins really, or the mermaid outline. Or her updo.
Erin Wasson in Oscar de la Renta. Like I said about strapless dresses above. It's also not a winner with me. I think there's entirely too much space between her necklace and the neckline of the dress. I wish she spruced up her hair and makeup...
Anja Rubik in a loose, oversized black sheer dress. No. Just no. Too many sizes too big.
Diane Kruger in Nina Ricci. The textures, style, design, skirt, shoulder appliques and everything else is clearly not a winner. In short, I hate the dress.
Berenice Bejo in a custom-made Prada gown.
This. Was. Custom. Made.
I dislike the dress immensely.
OK............There are many more but I can't continue. Clearly there are way more looks I didn't like than those I did like. I applaud those whose looks I think stole the show, but I wish the best for the ones who didn't make it next year. Please consult a professional stylist. Alright, I'm starting to sound a bit harsh lol. Whoops - fashion can do that to ya!
